Where to Stay in Corfu
Pick the area first, the hotel second. Here is how the areas differ.
Pick your area in 60 seconds
Old Town if you want sights on foot (cobbles, no parking) · Garitsa for seafront quiet · Kanoni for Pontikonisi views · Paleokastritsa only if you accept bus A9 (€2.50) or a car — mid hotels €70–130/night in season (check locally).
Area by area, with prices
Old Town (UNESCO): 5 min walk to Spianada — boutique rooms €80–150/night peak; cobbles and stairs; best for first-timers. Liston & Spianada: café noise until midnight; same price band, easier luggage than Campiello. Garitsa: 15 min walk to centre — seafront mid hotels €70–110; calmer nights. Kanoni: 4 km south — Pontikonisi views, airport noise; photographers and couples. Paleokastritsa coast: resort pricing, needs green bus or car — beach-first trips.
Hostels and budget rooms
Hostel beds €25–40/night in season (check locally) cluster near San Rocco and the port — walking distance to blue buses (Zone A €1.30). Private budget rooms in Garitsa and suburban streets from ~€45 — verify A/C and parking before paying. Book Easter and August early; winter drops rates sharply.
Mid-range hotels
Expect €70–130/night for three-star properties with breakfast near Spianada or Garitsa (August curves — verify on booking). Ask about luggage porters in Old Town — many buildings lack lifts. Free cancellation helps when ferry delays strike. Line 15 airport bus (€1.30) reaches San Rocco in ~15 minutes from CFU (cfu-airport.gr, checked Aug 2026).
Worth the upgrade
Boutique palazzos inside the UNESCO zone and sea-view suites in Kommeno or Dassia push €190+ nightly (luxury band from city.yaml cost estimator). Pay for parking if you hire a car — Old Town has none. Achilleion-area villas suit Achilleion + Kanoni combo stays; taxi to town ~€12–15 on meter.
When to book and what to check
Reserve Old Town 2–3 months ahead for Easter Botides week and August. Confirm A/C, soundproof windows on Liston, and whether “sea view” means Garitsa bay or a lane. Municipal tourist tax applies — often collected at checkout (amount check locally). Read cancellation rules for ferry-dependent arrivals.
What you actually trade when you pick a bed
| Area | Walk to Spianada | Nightly band | Accept this |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old Town / Campiello | 5–10 min | €80–150 peak boutique | Cobbles, stairs, no parking, porter for bags |
| Liston / Spianada edge | on it | same band | Café noise until midnight |
| Garitsa | 15 min flat | €70–110 mid | Quieter nights, sea path |
| Kanoni | need bus | mid | Pontikonisi views, airport approach noise |
| Paleokastritsa coast | 45 min A9 €2.50 | resort | Beach first, town second |
Hostel beds €25–40 and mid hotels €70–130 are the bands we publish, checked August 2026 — they move with Easter week and August. CFU is 3 km; Line 15 costs €1.30 to San Rocco (cfu-airport.gr). That is why a town bed beats a cheap west-coast room if your trip is fortresses and Liston, not swimming.
Book Old Town 2–3 months ahead for Botides week. Confirm air-conditioning and whether “sea view” is Garitsa bay or a two-metre gap between walls. Municipal tourist tax is often collected at checkout — amount check locally. If you hire a car, do not stay inside the UNESCO grid: there is no useful parking. Stay Garitsa or Kanoni and bus in.
Easter week and August change the map
Holy Saturday Botides fills every bed inside the walls. Book 2–3 months ahead or stay Garitsa and walk in. August is resort pricing on the northwest coast and heat in Campiello without air-conditioning — confirm A/C in the listing, not in the photos.
Winter is the opposite: rates drop, some beach hotels shut, fortress hours shrink to 08:30–15:30. A town bed still wins if you came for museums and buses. Line 15 from CFU remains €1.30. Tourist tax is often at checkout — amount check locally.
