Un giorno in Corfu
This loop stays inside the UNESCO core. No bus. Start at the fortress gates so you walk downhill through town in the heat. Summer hours below are from odysseus.culture.gr, checked August 2026; winter closing is earlier (08:30–15:30).
- 08:00 — Old Fortress Cross the iron bridge over the Contrafossa. Allow 90 minutes for the clock tower, church of St George and the sea walls. Last photography is from the lighthouse terrace — it is steep and not step-free.
- 10:15 — Spianada & Liston The square is free. Sit under the arcades for freddo espresso €2.50–4. This is the same ground used for cricket and, at Easter, the Botides pot-throwing (visitgreece.gr).
- 11:30 — Campiello to Saint Spyridon Fifteen minutes of stepped lanes. The church is the island’s patron; dress shoulders covered. No ticket. If a liturgy is on, wait at the door rather than cutting through.
- 13:15 — lunch in Campiello or Mouragia Order pastitsada or sofrito, not a generic “Greek mixed grill”. Confirm fish by the kilo before it hits the grill. Details: Mangiare & Bere.
- 15:30 — New Fortress lookout or Asian Art Museum The New Fortress ramparts are a short uphill from the market. The Museum of Asian Art (Palace of St Michael and St George) is the indoor alternative — check odysseus.culture.gr for the day’s hours before you walk over.
- 19:00 — Garitsa lungomare Flat 20-minute walk south of Spianada. Sunset hits the Old Fortress from this side. Dinner here is quieter than Liston and better with children.

Day 1 as above. Day 2 leaves town on blue buses. Buy tickets at a kiosk or machine Prima boarding — on-board costs more (Astiko KTEL Kerkyras, checked August 2026). Zone A is €1.30; Zone B is €1.80. A day pass is €5 if you stack Kanoni and Achilleion.
- 09:00 — autobus per Kanoni Zona A. Pedalata fino al punto panoramico Pontikonisi / Vlacherna. L'inquadratura dell'isola dei topi è effettuata dalla terrazza del bar, non da una barca che devi prendere. Le barche per Pontikonisi circolano in stagione – verificare la tariffa in loco, andata e ritorno circa pochi euro.
- 10:30 — Lunedì Repos Walk or stay on the coastal path. Park and beach are the flat family option. Combine with Kanoni rather than as a third bus ride.
- 13:00 — lunch, then Achilleion Gardens €7 / €5 reduced; palace interior closed for restoration (achillion-corfu.gr, August 2026). Hours: 08:00–20:00 summer, 08:00–16:00 winter. Zone B bus €1.80 or a taxi from Kanoni. Allow 90 minutes in the gardens; the Kaiser terrace is the view, not a maze of rooms.
- 17:30 — ritorno in città Same bus corridor. If you miss the last frequent blue bus, budget a taxi rather than waiting on a dark village road.
- 20:00 — Porto di Mouragia Seafood by the old port. Read the kilo price. Pair with the Come muoversi last-bus times if you are staying outside the UNESCO grid.

Full routing, including Albania (Saranda / Butrint) ferries: Gite di un giorno E Paleokastritsa & northwest coast. Gli autobus verdi non arrivano in ritardo; se rimani a cena in un villaggio della costa occidentale, pianifica un taxi per il ritorno.

Ionian rain is real from October to April. Do not “do the fortress anyway” in a thunderstorm — staff close upper gates. Build an indoor morning and a covered-arcade afternoon.
- Morning — two museums, separate tickets Archaeological Museum of Corfu and the Museum of Asian Art. Check odysseus.culture.gr the night before: hours and closure days change. They are walkable from Spianada in 10–15 minutes.
- Pranzo sotto Liston The arcades stay dry. This is the one time Liston prices are worth it — you are buying shelter, not a view.
- Afternoon — municipal market Near the New Fortress. Kumquat spoon sweets and olive oil. Compare labels; “Corfu kumquat” is the island souvenir, not a generic orange liqueur.
- If it still sheets down Cinema on Mantzarou — listings local. Or sit in a Guilford Street bakery. Skip Paleokastritsa: west-coast roads feel narrower in rain, and coves are no fun in a swell.

The UNESCO grid is cobbles and steps. A full-size stroller is a fight in Campiello. Use a carrier in the lanes; unroll the stroller on Spianada and Garitsa.
- Giorno 1 mattina: Old Fortress only until the first staircase protest. Ice cream on Liston. Nap.
- Giorno 1 pomeriggio: Mon Repos park and the small beach — the flattest “nature” near town. Shade under pines. No ticket for the park paths themselves; palace hours if you go inside — check on site.
- Giorno 2: Achilleion gardens only (€7). Interior is closed anyway. The statues are the child-friendly bit; the history lecture is not.
- Giorno 3: Paleokastritsa on the first A9, one cove, early bus back. Pack water and snacks; village shops close mid-afternoon in shoulder season.
Playgrounds, shade and what to skip: In famiglia. Blue-bus Zone A tickets are still €1.30 each; there is no separate child fare published on astikoktelkerkyras.gr — confirm at the kiosk for under-fives.

Un giorno è sufficiente per Corfu?
Un giorno copre a piedi il Old Fortress, Spianada, Liston e Campiello: sufficiente per una sosta in crociera o una sosta notturna. Ti manca Achilleion, Kanoni e qualsiasi spiaggia. Concedere un minimo di due giorni per la città più uno spettacolo suburbano.
Qual è l'ordine migliore per vedere Corfu?
